U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on Sunday in Hanoi that Washington is aiming for enhanced military collaboration with Vietnam. His current visit to the capital of the Southeast Asian country includes planned discussions with its top government officials.
Prior to his scheduled talk with Defence Minister Phan Van Giang, Hegseth noted that existing military ties have involved the United States providing three patrol boats for the Vietnamese coast guard, along with three T-6 training planes, which are part of a larger commitment for twelve aircraft.
Hegseth affirmed, "The United States is dedicated to advancing these projects and initiating others," further stating that Washington champions a Vietnam that is strong and self-reliant.
"Increased collaboration will bring advantages to both our nations," he concluded.
