Status of pilot and potential passengers unknown as emergency crews attend incident near Doncaster
Police reported that a helicopter went down in a field located in South Yorkshire.
On Thursday at 10:15 am, emergency responders were dispatched to the crash site at Ings Lane, Bentley, close to Doncaster.
South Yorkshire police confirmed that emergency teams were sent to the location of the accident.
A police spokesperson stated: “Ings Lane is closed while we respond to this incident. Please avoid the area and plan an alternative route where possible. Further updates will be provided when they are available.”
Reports suggest the helicopter was a private charter that had taken off from Gamston airport, near Retford, just a short time before the accident occurred.
The airport's spokesperson confirmed: “We can confirm an aircraft based here operated by an on-site tenant has been involved in an incident but we have no further information at this time.”
Local resident and witness, Lee Needham, told the BBC that the aircraft crashed in close proximity to homes, railway lines, industrial buildings, and electrical pylons.
He commented, “Whoever was piloting the helicopter more than likely saved numerous lives.”
The number of people aboard the helicopter remains unknown.
