The Health Ministry in Gaza announced on Saturday that the Palestinian death toll has surpassed 70,000, with at least 70,100 killed and over 170,900 wounded since the war began on October 7, 2023. This announcement comes despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire that took effect last month.
The ongoing conflict was evident in a drone attack on Bani Suheila, east of Khan Younis, which killed two Palestinian children. Witnesses told Al Jazeera the two brothers, Juma and Fadi Tamer Abu Assi, were struck near al-Farabi School and later pronounced dead at Nasser Medical Complex. Sources noted the attack occurred beyond the "Yellow Line" redeployment boundary set by the October 10 ceasefire.
Separately on Saturday, Israeli ground, naval, and air attacks struck multiple areas. Three Palestinians were wounded by artillery and air bombardment in al-Qarara, northeast of Khan Younis, while Israeli aircraft also launched raids in Gaza City's Tuffah neighborhood and eastern Rafah. This follows a similar drone strike in Bani Suheila that killed one Palestinian on Friday.
Ismail al-Thawabta, director of Gaza’s Government Media Office, reported Friday that 535 Israeli violations have been documented since the truce began. He stated, “The humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating at an unprecedented rate, and the Israeli aggression has destroyed infrastructure and essential services.”
