France and Italy push to delay Mercosur EU vote

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron have aligned on the necessity to delay a final European Union vote on the contentious Mercosur trade agreement, according to two sources familiar with their discussions who spoke to Reuters on Monday.

France has been actively working to gather support from other EU member states to form a blocking minority against the deal, which was negotiated by the European Commission. A decisive vote on the agreement had been anticipated in Brussels this week.
